Kauai - Poipu
Sunny Poipu is a
resort community that takes advantage of the island's warm
south shore and two prime beaches - Poipu Beach and
Brennecke's Beach. The nearby town of Koloa emanates an
antique charm with its old wooden buildings; this was the
site of Hawaii's first sugar plantation and mill. The garden
at nearby Kiahuna
Plantation
Resort, with lava-rock pools, is listed in Great Gardens of
America. Even more stunning is the Allerton Garden, a
privately-owned paradise exquisitely designed for visual
splendor that was bequeathed to the National Tropical
Botanical Garden in 1987. Along the coast to the west is
Kauai's equivalent of Old Faithful - a blowhole called
Spouting Horn.
