Rating and General Location
This Four (4) Hibiscus Rated oceanfront (not beachfront) hotel property is situated on the sunny Kohala Coast area of the Big Island of Hawaii. Located in the northwestern section of the Big Island in the master planned development known as Waikoloa Village, this full-service mega-resort is close to beaches, shops, restaurants and golf.

Physical Description and Management
The Hilton Waikoloa consists of three (3), seven (7) story buildings containing 1,240 guest rooms. The property is a bigger-than-life, luxury fantasyland for adults and children alike. The property is managed in a first class condition by the very professional Hilton organization.

Guest Orientation, Common Areas and Room Locations
Hilton Waikoloa is suitable to a broad range of guest tastes, but is principally a playground for families traveling with children or teens. Guests are shuttled to their room by either monorail or boat. Common areas offer three (3) pools, including an incredible four (4) acre man-made, ocean fed saltwater lagoon, five (5) waterslides, waterfalls, a river pool and three (3) jacuzzis. Additionally, the property offers six (6) restaurants, a boutique style shopping arcade, eight (8) tennis courts, one (1) racquetball court, 29 meeting rooms totaling 45,000 square feet for up to 2,841 people, a 25,000 square foot health spa including saunas, steam baths, massage, herbal wraps and other beauty treatments. There are two (2) championship golf courses across from the property, as well as a year-round program for children and teens. Room views include Garden, Golf, Mountain, Partial Ocean View and Ocean View.

On Our Last Visit
We have visited this property on a number of occasions, and it is definitely a favorite with children. Despite its size, Hilton Waikoloa consistently has one of the highest guest occupancy rates of any property in the Islands. The boats and monorail are both fun and functional, since the large size of the grounds would make walking back and forth to your room difficult. The unique transportation system enhances the entire process. The four (4) acre, ocean-fed, saltwater lagoon is the best we have seen. As the property sits adjacent to a rocky shoreline, this huge man-made lagoon provides ample opportunity for kayaking, snorkeling or just sunning on the strip of sand shipped in to create a beach. A genuine beach is less than a five (5) minute drive from the hotel, but few guests feel the need for the real thing, as the Hilton Waikoloa substitute is great for all but the most energetic beach-goers. A number of other freshwater pools, along with waterslides and waterfalls, will keep any family busy. As if these were not enough, the property also offers a unique opportunity to get in the water with Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins under a supervised program.

The property is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. A quiet luxury resort it is not. It is, however, a sight to be seen. We have inspected guest rooms on two separate occasions and found them to be fairly standardized in size and decor. The lowest priced rooms may give you a view of rooftop air conditioning systems with mountains in the distant background, but the common areas are the appeal at this property. The "Cabana" room category is worth looking into. Also we suggest you attempt to book rooms in the "Lagoon Tower" in order to place your clients closer to the pool, lagoon and restaurants, as other buildings require the tram or boat as a shuttle service.

Room Sizes and Amenities
Standard guest rooms average 525-550 square feet in size with a smallish 30 square foot lanai. Room amenities include air conditioning, coffee maker, daily maid service, hairdryer, in-room safe, color TV with pay-option movies, iron and board and mini-bar. One (1) Bedroom units average 1,060 square feet and Two (2) Bedroom units range from 1,590-2,630 square feet.
